Rutger Hauer has signed on for “True Blood” season 6, but will he help Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) or destroy her?

TVLine first reported that Hauer will be a regular cast member during the sixth season of “True Blood.” However, the report also states that Hauer will be playing Macklyn, “a mysterious and sinister figure with deep ties to Sookie and her brother, Jason (Ryan Kwanten).”

Hauer is perhaps best known for his memorable turn in Blade Runner, in addition to numerous classic films like The Hitcher, Nighthawks, Wedlock, Sin City and Batman Begins as well as genre TV favorites like “Alias” and “Smallville.”

The casting of Hauer on “True Blood” is only surprising in that most fans expected him to be playing Warlow, the vampire who murdered Sookie and Jason’s parents. But there is some evidence to suggest that Hauer IS playing Warlow.

During season 5, Warlow briefly appeared as a vision to Sookie in her bathroom.

And we got a slightly better look at Warlow during one of the flashback sequences.

Now, here’s a picture of Hauer.

Warlow and Hauer’s chins are noticeably different, as another actor portrayed Warlow in those scenes. But Warlow and Hauer’s noses seem to be strikingly similar.

And here’s the final piece of evidence: In the fifth season episode “Gone, Gone, Gone;” the contract binding Sookie to Warlow was made out to “M. Warlow.” Hauer’s new character is named Macklyn, so perhaps his last name is Warlow.
