Well, another week of NFL football is in the books and some NFL players couldn’t help but celebrate adding to the win column. It’s a nice change, considering the only topic of Twitter conversation last week seemed to be the replacement referees. But with that whole ordeal finished, it was back to football.
Perhaps the biggest game of the week was an NFC showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants, which was a ratings juggernaut for NBC on Sunday night. The following day – after the Eagles’ lucky 19-17 win – LeSean McCoy decided to spoil himself with a snack, much to the dismay of longsnapper Jon Dorenbos.
Yo! @CutonDime25 How you gonna roll up to work today with chick-Fil-A and not offer me any. chicken club next time
Not everyone was thrilled with the matchup – and with Cris Collinsworth and Al Michaels voicing the nationally televised game, can you blame them? Houston Texans center Ben Jones had this to say turning the contest:
Wow faith hill. Ur still my favorite
We really can’t argue with that, some weeks – when the matchup is poor – that’s the only highlight!
Meanwhile, the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills had plenty of highlights in the Patriots’ 52-28 shellacking in the land of hot wings. After the win, Chandler Jones posted this cryptic message:
Feelin good livin better
We’d feel good too if our biggest division rival got destroyed, which was exactly what happened to the New York Jets in their 34-0 loss to San Francisco. But they’re still tied for first in the AFC East at 2-2, so now is not the time to panic, though it might be Tim Tebow time!
With these Thursday night games each week, some players have free time on Sundays and always have something to say about what they’re up to. Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs spent his time off – though with his injury he now has plenty of those days – watching the one Arnold Schwarzenegger movie you wouldn’t expect a NFL badass to watch.
Oh snaps, Kindergarten cop is on. #oldskool
Other guys already cannot wait until Thursday. Take St. Louis Rams punter Johnny Hekker for instance, who had this to say early Monday afternoon, following a big Rams win:
We have to pack the dome on Thursday night St. Louis! The fans played a HUGE role in the win tonight. Thanks #RamsNation #packthedome
That’s cute; he’s like the team cheerleader. Speaking of cheerleaders, Denver Broncos running back Lance Ball seemed pretty excited with Sunday’s 37-6 win over the Oakland Raiders and made sure to thank all the fans in attendance.
Thanks for all the support tnite! Love ya #bronconation #milehighsalute
Not all the wins looked good, but a win is a win; just ask Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett who tweeted this after his team improved to 4-0 on the season:
I'm proud of my boyz today, we fight till its over!! 4-0….. looked ugly but we will take it. #BIRDGANG™
That’s funny, because Washington Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon said the same thing.
It wasn't pretty, but it was good to get out of here with a W.
Get out of Tampa? It shouldn’t have been that close, but it won’t always be an easy task with a rookie quarterback at the helm. So what did we learn this week – NFL players watch bad movies; don’t forget to bring Chick-Fil-A; and make sure your punter has a pair of pom-poms.
We’re learning so much this season.
