Tasteless Shirt Mocks Jerry Sandusky Crimes

Controversy is brewing around one Big 10 rival in particular.

Throughout history, humanity has repeatedly shown an almost stunning ability to step up and help those in need. Whether it's through time, effort, or financial gifts, people step up all the time. Unfortunately, the opposite holds true as well and some people can't help but be insensitive jerks just looking to make some headlines off of a bad situation.

That second sentiment has came through in a big way recently as probably one of the most tasteless jokes of all time is in the spotlight as college bowl season commences.

It is being reported that fans of Ohio State are sporting t-shirts that read the following message:

"I'd rather shower at Penn State than cheer for the Wolverines"

This tasteless and obvious reference to the sad events brought to light this past offseason concerning Jerry Sandusky and the Penn State child sex abuse scandal is about as insensitive as you can get. In one specific event, Sandusky was accused of raping a boy in the Penn State showers back in 2001. A photo of the shirt went viral on Wednesday and The Ohio State University was quick to make it known that it is in no way endorsing or responsible for it.

"We recently became aware that this T-shirt design is circulating on social media," Gayle Saunders, OSU assistant vice president of media relations, wrote in an e-mail. "This is not a University sanctioned T-shirt, and we have no knowledge of where it originated. It is unacceptable and appalling that someone would make light of a tragedy in this manner."

The vulgarity of the whole thing even reached former Ohio State stars who took to twitter to defend the pride of their school while questioning those who are responsible for this shirt.

Jared Sullinger, former OSU basketball star and now with the Boston Celtics, took to Twitter to voice his thoughts on the subject.

"For y'all to come out with shirts about PSU is giving Ohio state a bad name. We respect our opponents and we respect the victims." Sulinger tweeted.

Ohio State isn't the lone culprit for this t-shirt, similar ones later popped up in Iowa and LSU, but they are getting the most media attention because theirs was the first pictured on Jezebel, a popular women's blog.

The sad reality of today's world is that anyone will capitalize on anything to make a buck, but even with that knowledge, doesn't there have to be some line in the sand that even the most money hungry won't cross? Apparently not, if this is any indication.

Penn State refused to comment, and who can blame them.
