Unlike Marvel Studios' other upcoming sequels, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is in desperate need of a female co-star, since the World War II hero's first leading lady, Hayley Atwell, didn't come along for the ride to the 21st Century. Today came the first word of whom Marvel Studios and directors Anthony and Joe Russo are considering for the leading lady, and according to The New York Post it's down to three choices: Anna Kendrick (50/50), Imogen Poots (Fright Night) and Felicity Jones (Like Crazy).
What The New York Post doesn't quite get around to mentioning, however, is who exactly these actresses are being considered to play in the sequel. Common geek sense would seem to indicate that they – or rather, one of them – would be cast as Sharon Carter, the niece (or probably great grand niece given the continuity of the films as opposed to the comics) of Captain America's love interest in The First Avenger, Peggy Carter. Yes, there's an element of creepiness there. Just run with it. Sharon Carter is an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., and therefore likely to be in close proximity to Chris Evans' superheroic character.
Fine actresses, the lot of them, but somehow we imagine Felicity Jones in S.H.I.E.L.D. get up more easily. What do you think? Which of these leading ladies would you like to see in Captain America: The Winter Soldier?
CraveOnline will be back with more Captain America: The Winter Soldier news… because winter is coming.
