Ubisoft made the announcement official during Gamescom: the follow-up to the spectacular Rayman Origins will be a Wii U Exclusive, set to release this holiday season as a launch title for Nintendo’s new console.
Last year’s Rayman Origins was a title that landed on nearly every system imaginable. The title came to Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii, 3DS and even the PS Vita. That makes the exclusivity news for Rayman Legends all the more surprising. When the game was revealed at E3 it was only shown off on the Wii U, but we just chalked that up to Ubisoft wanting to highlight the new tablet controls for the Wii U version. Now it appears as though the Wii U version was the only one shown because it’s the only version that exists.
Now, there’s still hope Rayman Legends will come to other consoles later down the road. Maybe it’s a Wii U timed exclusive, after which Ubisoft will choose to develop it for more system as long as its proven successful. Let’s cross our fingers that is the case.
