Earlier this month, "Spartacus" creator Steven S. DeKnight and STARZ made the surprising announcement that the series will end after the upcoming third season, "Spartacus: War of the Damned." However, STARZ is already lining up a couple of potential replacements.
On the eve of Comic-Con International, the network has revealed that DeKnight is already developing a new sci-fi show called "Incursion;" which will follow soldiers in an intergalactic war against a menacing alien race. Each episode will take place on a different alien world as the soldiers push deep into enemy territory.
"Spartacus" producer Rob Tapert also has a show in development at STARZ with Roy Lee and "Babylon 5" creator J. Michael Straczynski called "Vlad Dracula;" which will blend the historical 15th century figure with his more famous vampire incarnation. "Vlad Dracula" will reportedly follow the title character's transformation from the Prince of Wallachia into the feared lord of the undead.
“Steven DeKnight, J. Michael Straczynski, Roy Lee and Rob Tapert are legendary talents, having created some of the most groundbreaking and iconic television series with incredibly passionate fan bases the world over, ” said STARZ Managing Director Carmi Zlotnik in a brief statement. “We are thrilled to work with such sophisticated auteurs and producers as we grow the slate of unique STARZ original series.”
"Spartacus: War of the Damned" will premiere in January 2013 on STARZ.
