After two straight years with Michael Jordan gracing the cover of the NBA 2K series (he shared it with Larry Bird and Earvin “Magic” Johnson for 2K12), 2K Sports is going in a different direction with 2K13. This year’s title will spotlight three of the NBA’s best young bloods – Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Chicago Bulls’ Derrick Rose.
While all three players have yet to earn their place in the Hall of Fame, they have proven their merit on the court in just a few years’ time. For instance, all three players have earned the “Rookie of the Year” award, as well as eight All-Star berths, three scoring titles, and one Most Valuable Player award between them.
"Being crowned as one of the NBA 2K13 cover athletes is a huge honor and something I always dreamt about," said Durant, who won his third straight scoring title and led the Thunder franchise to their first NBA Finals appearance since 1996. "It's definitely humbling to grace the cover after the likes of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird."

Lastly, just because Jordan isn’t on the cover doesn’t mean he won’t be returning in some form for NBA 2K13. 2K Sports is remaining coy on the subject of Jordan’s involvement, but did tease His Airness will be making a comeback in a similar fashion to what we’ve come to expect.
