"Barton's been compromised."
The Avengers comes out in exactly one month, so the time has come for yet another tease. Not another trailer, not another TV spot, but an honest to goodness scene from Joss Whedon's ambitious new film that brings all the existing Marvel Studios franchises together at the same time. The scene stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff, The Black Widow, tied to a chair in the enemy's clutches. But when she gets word that "Barton has been compromised," it's time for to kick some ass, chair-style.
The clip, courtesy of Hollywood Reporter, probably not the whizz bang special effects-driven action sequence that fans are clamoring for, but it does give us a good sense of just how Whedonesque The Avengers will be. A female action hero with solid comic timing, kicking ass while Agent Coulson patiently waits for her schedule to free up. And is it just us, or did you get a serious "Buffy" vibe when she broke off that chair leg?
The droll humor of Joss Whedon appears to have taken hold in The Avengers, and while that bodes well for the characterization, does this scene encourage you when it comes to his oft-debated action chops? Let us know in the comments.
The Avengers opens on May 4, 2012.
