Are We There Yet? – Hotel Getaways

An evening at the OPUS Montreal.

A week-long getaway (or more) can be a welcomed reprieve from everyday life, but a quick overnight jaunt can also be a great recharge. My husband and I were lucky enough to be treated to an incredible evening in downtown Montreal recently, and in the middle of a week where more deadlines were looming than ever before, it was the ideal time to escape reality for a few hours and indulge in the city.

The OPUS Montreal may be one of the most ideally situated properties in the entire Montreal core – it stands on the corner of Sherbrooke and St. Laurent Streets at the heart of the posh supperclub district. It's a modern marvel with a stunning lobby and fantastic urban-chic rooms boasting contemporary amenities like huge bathrooms with walk-in showers as well as avant-garde decor, perfect to reflect the bustling city views. We had the absolute pleasure of meeting with Bob Eyton-Jones, Director of Operations at the OPUS Montreal, a lovely gentleman with vision and charisma who has completely transformed the hotel since his arrival a short time ago, and we shared a friendly drink at their high-end eatery Koko Restaurant and Bar.

The meal that followed was nothing short of exquisite. Both Marco and Sebastien, who waited on us, gave us fantastic recommendations, and my husband and I ate like royalty – creamed parsnip soup with caramelized onions and herb oil, succulently braised shortrib, and then not one but a platter with three desserts like lemon tart with lemon sorbet, burnt meringue, and pine nut praline. A few glasses of wine later and we were nestled all snug in our comfortable oversized beds, listening to the hum of the downtown streets.

The next morning I was completely revitalized. As I mentioned, it was one of the busiest weeks of my life, and a hotel getaway was the perfect way to clear my head and gear up for the rest of what would surely be a chaotic week. Especially a jaunt to the OPUS Montreal – if you're coming to Montreal you really need to check out both this awesome hotel and their amazing Koko restaurant. It's an unforgettable experience.

Bon Voyage,
