Every Actress in Hollywood Lines Up for Thin Man Remake

Rob Marshall starts looking for a leading lady for Johnny Depp in the comedy remake, and everyone is up for the part.

[Correction: The following article states that David Koepp is currently writing The Thin Man. As has been pointed out to us, Koepp left the project late last year and was replaced by Billy Ray, the talented writer/director of Shattered Glass and Breach, who recently adapted The Hunger Games. Our apologies.]

It took them long enough, but The Thin Man is finally gearing up for production. The remake of the classic comedy franchise, which starred William Powell and Myrna Loy and spanned six films from 1934 to 1947, will star Johnny Depp as Nick Charles, the playboy mystery enthusiast with a precocious dog and hilariously alcoholic wife. The original film is being remade by Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides director Rob Marshall, and written by blockbuster screenwriter David Koepp (Spider-Man, Jurassic Park) after Permanent Midnight writer Jerry Stahl fell through. The time has come at last to fill the film's lead role of Nora Charles, and everyone in Hollywood has lined up for the privilege.

Deadline reports that the actresses currently being considered for the lead include a veritable "Who's Who" of leading ladies, including Eva Green, Amy Adams, Emma Stone, Carey Mulligan, Rachel Weisz, Kristen Wiig, Emily Blunt and Isla Fisher. Not all of them fit Nick Charles's own description of his wife, "lanky brunettes with wicked jaws," but talented actresses all.

They're casting quite a wide net, aren't they? Dramatic actresses like Mulligan, Weisz and Green are competing with comedic stars like Wiig and Fisher, and don't get us started on the age discrepancy. Emma Stone married to Johnny Depp? Eww…

It sounds like Marshall has his pick here, but who would be best in the role? Of these picks, we're probably most excited about Emily Blunt, who could use the boost in star power after missing out on The Black Widow in Marvel Studio's Avengers franchise.
