Although Stannis Baratheon did not appear in the first season of "Game of Thrones," he indirectly played a large part in the build up to the War of Five Kings.

When Ned Stark (Sean Bean) discovered that his friend, King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) had no true born heirs, he refused the temptation to make peace with the Lannisters or help Robert's younger brother, Renly Baratheon (Gethin Anthony) seize the Iron Throne. Instead, Ned sent word to Stannis that he was the rightful heir to the throne, by birth and blood. And Ned's devotion to honor and duty ultimately led to his demise.

In the upcoming second season of "Game of Thrones," Stannis will make his move to gain the throne that he believes is rightfully his. And Stannis promises to make Joffrey (Jack Gleeson), Robb Stark (Richard Madden) and even his remaining brother, Renly bend the knee to his reign or face their end.

HBO has released a special promo video that profiles Stannis, as actor Stephen Dillane assumes the role in season two. In the video below, Dillane describes Stannis' worldview, as new cast members Carice van Houten, Liam Cunningham and Kerr Logan also weigh in on him. We also get a first look at van Houten's mysterious priestess, Mellisandre and Cunningham's fan favorite character, Davos Seaworth.

"Game of Thrones" season 2 premieres on Sunday, April 1; only on HBO!
