Will Smith teams up with Josh Brolin (as a young Tommy Lee Jones) in a sequel that looks surprisingly good.

"You know, I don't have no problem pimp slapping the shiznit out of Andy Warhol."

Men in Black III might actually be good? That's what we've learned today from the film's new trailer, which finds Will Smith going back in time to team up with a younger version of Tommy Lee Jones, who appears to be played to perfection by Josh Brolin. The concept is enough like Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me to be laughable, but in this trailer it also seems like it might work out just fine. If nothing else it seems to understand that the appeal of the original film came from its dry humor in the face of extraterrestrial punch lines, and not just… well, the madcap zaniness that turned Men in Black II into its own punchline. With that bad taste in our mouths, and the film's well-publicized production difficulties, we were ready for the worst, but it looks like Men in Black III could actually be a return to form. We're also big fans of the Andy Warhol bit, although we suspect half the target audience for this movie – kids and teenagers, basically – will be a little hazy on who Andy Warhol actually was. Let's hope we're wrong on that one.

Men in Black II opens May 25.
