Although "The River" may not be back next fall on ABC, Paul Blackthorne could have a new home on network TV.
According to Deadline, Blackthorne has signed on for The CW's Green Arrow pilot; which will be called "Arrow." Blackthorne will portray Quentin Lance; who is described as "a gruff, determined city detective who believes true justice can only come from law and order." Lance will also be charged with taking down the vigilante known as Green Arrow, who is secretly billionaire playboy turned social avenger, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell).
Additionally, Quentin Lance is also the father of Dinah "Laurel" Lance (Katie Cassidy); who becomes the heroine Black Canary in the original DC Comics. Black Canary was also Green Arrow's most frequent lover through their various incarnations.
Blackthorne is perhaps best known for starring in the Syfy series "The Dresden Files," in addition to his roles on "24," "Monk," "The Gates," "Warehouse 13," "Medium" and "ER." More recently, Blackthorne has co-starred on "The River" as Clark Quitely. Blackthrone's role in "Arrow" is technically in second position to "The River," which means that he would be obligated to give up his "Arrow" role and return to "The River" for a second season if it is picked up. However, the low ratings of "The River" make that an unlikely scenario.
Jamey Sheridan ("Law & Order: Criminal Intent") has also joined the cast of "Arrow" as Oliver Queen's father. Robert Queen. He joins the previously announced cast members Susanna Thompson as Oliver's mother, Moira Queen; Willa Holland as Oliver's spoiled younger sister, Thea Queen; Colin Donnell as Oliver's friend turned rival, Tommy Merlyn and David Ramsey as John Diggle, Oliver Queen's new bodyguard.
"Arrow" is written and executive produced by Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, with the pilot episode slated to be helmed by director David Nutter.
