2K Games and Irrational Games have today announced the official launch date for BioShock Infinite. You can expect the title to drop on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in North America on October 16, 2012. The game will then release internationally on October 19th.

“After BioShock, we had a vision for a follow up that dwarfed the original in scope and ambition,” said Ken Levine, Creative Director of Irrational Games. “BioShock Infinite has been our sole focus for the last four years, and we can’t wait for fans to get their hands on it.”

Having played a bit of Infinite at this past year's E3, I can say that it stands up to the original masterpiece when it comes to scope, character, setting and gameplay. However, it remains to be seen if the story can deliver the gut punch that the original BioShock offered. But I have complete faith in Mr. Levine and the folks at Irrational to pull it off.

Again, BioShock Infinite hits on either October 16th or 19th, depending on your region. Make sure you pick it up.
