On "Justified," U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) has just made a formidable new enemy.
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Adam Arkin has signed on to appear as Detroit mob boss, Theo Tonin in two episodes near the end of the third season. Theo was briefly mentioned in last night's episode, “The Man Behind the Curtain" as the father of fellow mobster Sammy Tonin (Max Perlich) and the surrogate father of Robert Quarles (Neal McDonough), Raylan's current antagonist.
The beginning of Theo's backstory was laid out last night when Raylan spoke about Theo's attempt to groom Quarles for control of the family's criminal organization until Quarles' hobby of brutalizing male hustlers got him shipped out of Detroit as punishment.
"Justified" producer Graham Yost also hinted to EW that Arkin will have a distinctive look while portraying Theo. "There is a physical tweak that Adam asked for,” noted Yost. “Adam wanted to be distinctive, so when you see it, it’s like, 'Oh wow, that’s pretty wild.' He’s not dressed as a pirate or anything. But he looks cool.”
Arkin is perhaps best known for starring as Aaron Shutt on "Chicago Hope," in addition to a long career that has included appearances on "The Closer," "Sons of Anarchy," "Monk," "Northern Exposure," "Life," "Grey's Anatomy," "Boston Legal," "The Riches" and "Dirt." Arkin is also an accomplished TV director who has previously helmed five episodes of "Justified."
According to the report, Arkin will make his first onscreen appearance on "Justified" in the eleventh episode of the season before returning for the third season finale.
