Sam Mendes’ First Skyfall Video Blog!

The director of American Beauty explains why he's making a big, noisy James Bond movie.

Maybe we're just spoiled by the Peter Jacksons of the world, but the first video blog from the 23rd James Bond film, Skyfall, is a little bit of a letdown. Maybe it's just easier to make these things when the audience already knows the story, so avoiding spoilers is less of an issue. As it stands, we're treated to Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes waxing rhapsodic about why he's making his first big action blockbuster, and also, curiously enough, the British director's first film to be set in his home country. If the goal was to comfort audiences in the knowledge that Skyfall had a passionate filmmaker at the helm, then mission accomplished. If the goal was to make us go nuts in anticipation of the actual film – beyond, obviously, the fact that it's being made at all – they've got to step up their game next time. Still, at less than two minutes, it's clearly worth your time if you're a James Bond fan. Enjoy.
