Nicolas Cage Actually Wants a ‘Wicker Man 2’

And his ideas for the sequel sound even crazier than the last one.

The Wicker Man was probably a dumb idea for a remake in the first place. Robin Hardy's original film, a classic horror thriller with a quirky sense of humor (and also a quasi-musical), was completely unlike anything the Hollywood studio system was willing to make: funny, scary, a quasi-musical horror film, deeply critical of Christianity and paganism alike. We suppose it's possible that The Wicker Man could have been remade well, and that perhaps In the Company of Men director Neil LaBute seemed like the right man to do it, but unfortunately we ended up with… this.

Basically, the 2006 version of The Wicker Man is considered one of the worst films of the modern age, or at the very least one of the most embarrassing. So it comes completely out of left field that Nicolas Cage actually wants to star in a sequel. Especially since – Spoiler Alert! – his character totally dies at the end of the first film.

In an interview with Empire (via Shock Till You Drop), the Oscar-winning actor said the following:

""I would like to hook up with one of the great Japanese filmmakers, like the master that made Ringu, and take The Wicker Man to Japan," Cage grinned, "except this time he's a ghost."

Okay, that's just… What? How would you… What?! What does that have to do with… What?! Like… What?!

Maybe Cage is trying to do something crazy. It wouldn't be the first time. He could be intentionally setting up the weirdest movie franchise of all time. Maybe for the third film, Cage's ghost could travel to Iran for one of their subtle Oscar-nominated dramas, just to see what would happen.

And all of this just distracts from the fact that there already is a sequel to The Wicker Man, the original at any rate, made by the original film's director. Or is it more of a "reimagining?"

CraveOnline will be back with more Wicker Man 2 news after we… Nah, we probably won't be back with more Wicker Man 2 news.
