Rumor: Xbox 720 Coming Fall 2013

More rumors hit the 'net about Microsoft's next home console.

Ladies and gentlemen, the rumor mill never stops doing what it does best: churning out rumors. A new anonymous source has come forward to tell IGN that the next Xbox console is coming in the fall of 2013 and will be “six times more powerful” than the current Xbox 360.

A lot of people (and sites) are going bananas right now, claiming this information is the real deal, as if it were etched into a third Commandment tablet that God forgot about all those years ago and is just now stumbling across it under a stack of pizza boxes to give to us.

Man, you can probably tell from that sentence that I’m not buying into this.

But let’s humor the rumor mill for the time being, shall we? In essence, this new Xbox, according to IGN, will sport a processor similar to the Radeon HD 6670, which offers DirectX 11 support, multidisplay output, 1080p HD output and 3D capabilities. The chips will go into production by year’s end, meaning the new console will launch sometime in 2013. Again, IGN’s sources are pegging fall of next year.

One last nugget of information while we’re here: the Next Xbox is rumored to have 20% greater performance than Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U. Honestly, that’s all well and good, but I’m more interested in where all these numbers are being pulled from right now; the air?

Either way, take this latest Xbox 720 rumor with a heavy grain of salt until we hear otherwise.
