The Last Guardian Is Still Being Made

The Team ICO head hits up Twitter to lay his fans’ worries to rest.

We kicked off the month of December with some depressing news. Rumors were running rampant across the internet that the lead developer of studio Team ICO, Fumito Ueda, had quit Sony, potentially throwing the development of The Last Guardian into limbo. That rumor has neither been confirmed nor denied by Ueda or Sony.

However, there is a ray of sunlight coming out of this dark, troubling cloud. Ueda has returned to Twitter where he let his legion of fans know that The Last Guardian is still in development, potentially in a “freelance capacity” if the rumors of Ueda quitting Sony are true.

Fumito Ueda said blunty:

"Recently, I have been getting a lot of questions…don’t worry, as usual, I’m still working hard on The Last Guardian."

See what Ueda did there? He completely dodged the question of whether or not he still works under a Sony roof while confirming his latest, sure-to-be-emotional epic is still on the way. Way to be the diplomat, Ueda.

Honestly, it’s probably going to be a long time before we hear anything concrete about Ueda’s current relationship with Sony. But there’s nothing we can do about that. Either way, it seems progress on The Last Guardian is still being made, and that’s a good thing indeed.

The Last Guardian is scheduled to ship sometime in 2012, but this whole Sony debacle could see it pushed back yet again. Stay tuned.
