AFC South

Jacksonville (3-8): Next game Monday Dec 5th against San Diego.

New Orleans Saints 31

Detroit Lions 17

Brees makes it look easy going 26-36, 342 yards and 3 TDs. The reality was that the Lions secondary had no answer to the Saints air attack. Meachem caught 3 long balls for 119 yards and 1 TD for New Orleans and this one wasn’t even close as the Saints grab their 9th win of the year.

Houston Texans 17

Atlanta Falcons 10

It was an impressive outing for the Texans’ Matt Ryan who had 267 yards in the air with 1 TD and no INTs. It’s not as impressive you find out though that he only went 20 for 46 in completions and didn’t get the win. Houston dominated on the ground with Foster taking 31 carries for 111 yards and 1 TD as the Texans grinding out another victory.

New England Patriots 31

Indianapolis Colts 24

Brady goes 29 for 38 for 293 yards and 2 TDs in the air. His favorite receiver is once again Welker who had 11 receptions for 114 yards as New England rolled over the Colts.  The biggest surprise of the game was that the Colts only lost by 7.

NFC South

Tennessee Titans 23

Buffalo Bills 17

Fitzpatrick and the Bills throw 46 times completing 29 for 288 yards, but their 2 turnovers prove the decisive stat of the game as the Titans win with Johnson putting up solid numbers again gaining 153 yards and 2 TDs on 23 carries.

Carolina Panthers 38

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 19

Newton goes a conservative 12-21 for 204 yards and 1 TD as Carolina roll over Tampa Bay in the battle of the bottom of the NFC South.  Tampa Bay’s Johnsons had a decent day with 229 yards in the air, but their defense had a hard time stopping much of anything.

Game of the Week

Houston Texans 17

Atlanta Falcons 10

Houston and Atlanta ground it out this week in another tough fought victory for the Texans. The trend continues that they don’t win pretty, but they still win none-the-less. Foster set the tone of both the game and the Houston offense carrying the ball 31 times for 111 yards and 1 TD. This smash-mouth style of football is what Houston is known for. It might not be as pretty as a Tom Brady fade away to the corner of the end-zone, but it’s what the Texans are known for and with 9 wins who’s going to argue with them. Atlanta put up a valiant effort, but their 2 turnovers combined with Houston’s ability to manage the clock and force Atlanta to constantly be on defense made the difference.

Offensive Player of the Week

Drew Brees – 26-36 completions, 342 yards, 3 TDs: Brees chalked up huge numbers this week as New Orleans rolled to their 9th win. Perhaps the most impressive thing about Drew Brees isn’t even his ability to thread the needle or hit the deep ball to Meachem, which he did this week for 3 receptions and 111 yards, it’s his leadership. This is a QB that is the heart and soul of his team and once again in week 13 Brees proved why he’s the best. Even with Detroits Stafford going for 405 yards in the air, the contest wasn’t even close. Brees did more than just get points on the board, he managed the game, moved the chains, and made the plays when it counted.

Defensive Player of the Week

Jonathan Vilma – 10 Tackles, 6 Solo: Vilma had the game of his season this week with 10 tackles. He only has 32 tackle on the season, but for whatever reason he was in the right place all day long this Sunday as he helped shut down Detroit’s offense with his quick reads from the linebacker position. It will be interesting to see if Vilma can maintain his new found prowess in throwing up stats and move into the ranks of some of the more name linebackers in the South.
