For the PlayStation 3 crowd, you’ll be able to snag the first expansion to Battlefield 3, “Back to Karkand,” next week, December 6, 2011. For everyone else (Xbox 360 and PC owners), “Back to Karkand” will deploy a week later on December 13th, as was revealed on the Battlefield Blog.

The Battlefield 3 “Back to Karkand” DLC adds four classic maps to the game reimagined with Frostbite 2 technology (Wake Island, Sharqi Peninsula, Gulf of Oman, and Strike at Karkand), three new vehicles (VSTOL fighter jet, Desert Buggy, and APC), ten new weapons, a new layer of persistence and an all-new Assignments system, which lets you complete specific goals to unlock new weapons and dog tags for both the Back to Karkand DLC and the original Battlefield 3 game.

If you pre-ordered or purchased the Limited Edition of Battlefield 3, you’ll get the “Back to Karkand” DLC for free when it launches. Everyone else will have to pay roughly $15 for the content.

To get you salivating for the DLC, here’s a trailer featuring gameplay on the “Gulf of Oman” map. Oh, the glorious destruction!
