Back in the long, long ago, at the dawn of the internet, there were rumors of another Mad Max movie. Stories came and went, and George Miller encouraged them, promising us treasures galore in the near future when the fabled Fury Road, as it came to be called, finally began production. We are still waiting. Tom Hardy was long ago announced to take over for Mel Gibson, and he's still attached, and production is still scheduled to begin in April. We'll believe it when we see it. A new Mad Max movie? That's almost as ridiculous as three Mad Max movies!

…which is what director George Miller says we're getting, according to AFR Magazine.

Quoth the Miller, who brought us the original Mad Max trilogy: "We started with ['Fury Road'], but we then started to do a second story and a third […] We’ve written the script for the second and almost finished the third. We never intended to, they were part of the exploration of the characters."

As for, you know, what's going to happen in Fury Road? George Miller's staying mum, but his partner Doug Mitchell had impressive things to say about the budget: "If it’s above $100 million it’s a big budget […] This is a bigger budget. People have speculated around $200 million [which] I’d neither deny nor confirm. It’s a massive film."

Yes, but is it… humongous?

CraveOnline will be back with more Fury Road news after we fill up on gas.
