Ricky Gervais Will Host The Golden Globes Again

The controversial comedian returns to terrorize Hollywood for the third consecutive year.

Last year's Golden Globes awards show was very different from previous years. It was actually… entertaining, thanks to the venomous wit of Ricky Gervais as he took jabs all night at both the celebrities in attendance and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association; which is the power behind the Globes.

Despite rumors that the HFPA was against his return — in addition to Gervais' previous denial that he was even interested in host the show again — NBC and the HFPA have officially announced that Gervais will once again host the Golden Globes in January.

True to form, Gervais immediately took to Twitter and wrote "Just told Billy Crystal he'd better not use any of my holocaust or pedophile material at The Oscars. He agreed (true)."

It's too soon to tell if Gervais' return will scare off any celebrities from attending the live event. During last year's show, Gervais openly mocked Scientologists, Bruce Willis, Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, Charlie Sheen, Ashton Kutcher, Steve Carell and Robert Downey Jr., among several others. Downey notably fired back on the broadcast that Gervais had made the show “hugely mean-spirited with mildly sinister undertones.”

The 69th Golden Globes will be held on Sunday, January 15 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, with the broadcast once again set to air on NBC.
