Technology has definitely opened the doors tremendously in the travel world. PDF Maps app is proof of that.

The perfect accessory for the traveler, the extreme sportsman, the backpacker, the bicyclist, or just the everyday adventurer, PDF Maps provides professional maps designed specifically for a particular activity. Developed by Toronto-based Avenza for the iPhone and iPad, PDF Maps app are detailed to specific locations and remain interactive anywhere regardless of internet bandwidth.

Going sailing? Chances are, PDF Maps probably has a nautical map designed by a professional cartographer that will map out specific routes. Working with devices included in the iPhone such as GPS, once the map is downloaded PDF Maps app allows your specific map to remain interactive so you can know where you are, make notes, and plot points.

Trying to find the best bicycling trails through Canada traveled by cyclists before you? Maybe you’re a cyclist who’s found a challenging route and want others to know about. PDF Maps app allows individual cartographers and event planners to upload maps to Avenza’s Maps app store, making it easy and accessible for others to find interesting maps just like yours. Technology has changed the way we explore our world and Avenza’s PDF maps app provides the freedom to experience the location you’re in rather than wasting it looking for cell reception or a local store for directions.

Avenza’s Maps app launched to the public on October 25th. Currently, Avenza’s vast PDF Maps app library covering maps for domestic and international travel includes more than 55,000 USGS (United States Geological Survey) topographic maps organized by state and area.

PDF Maps is available now on the iTunes App Store free of charge. For more information about PDF Maps, visit the Avenza Web site.  Pricing of each map is set by the publisher and free maps remain free to users through the PDF Maps app in-app store.
