In the FX series "Archer," the suave secret agent, Sterling Archer (H. Jon Benjamin) has constantly said that his idol is Burt Reynolds and also indicated that he models his behavior after Reynolds' classic movies. But in the upcoming third season, Archer is going to meet Reynolds face-to-face, whether he likes it or not.
FX has announced that Burt Reynolds will appear as himself during a single episode from the third season of "Archer." In “The Man From Jupiter,” Archer becomes upset when his mother, Malory (Jessica Walter) begins dating Reynolds.
"I think the only person on the planet who's a bigger fan of Burt Reynolds than me is Sterling Archer," noted Adam Reed, the creator of "Archer." "Archer constantly tries to imitate Burt and always raves about Burt's movies and all-around awesomeness. So to have Burt recording voice-overs for the show was just amazing."
Reynolds is primarily known for starring in several classic films, including "Smokey and the Bandit," "The Longest Yard," "Deliverance," "White Lightning," "The Cannonball Run," "Boogie Nights," "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" and one of Sterling Archer's favorite films, "Gator."
On television, Reynolds starred in the hit sitcom "Evening Shade" for four seasons, in addition to memorable guest turns in "The X-Files," "My Name Is Earl" and "Burn Notice." Reynolds has also lent his voice to "King of the Hill" and "American Dad!".
“The Man From Jupiter" will air in January 2012, shortly after the third season of "Archer" begins on FX.
