One of these things is not like the other: Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jason Statham, Chuck Norris and… Liam Hemsworth? Yes, the young star of The Last Song has just joined the cast of The Expendables 2, and will probably be the only actor in the film who gets carded at the wrap party. He's also not an action star yet, although he'll be co-starring in Gary Ross's Hunger Games next year, so maybe it's preemptive casting, just in case that movie works out.
In any case, Liam Hemsworth represents a major change of pace for The Expendables 2, since the average age of the main cast appears to be hovering around 55, although we haven't actually crunched those numbers. That's a lot of baddases with potentially broken hips on the set, so it's nice to see some young folks rounding out the ranks. Liam Hemsworth probably wouldn't have been our first pick, although he makes a damned sight more sense than most other actors of his generation. We wonder if an offer went out to his brother Chris Hemsworth, aka the mighty Thor, or maybe Jason Statham's Mechanic co-star Ben Foster as well.
CraveOnline will be back with more Expendables 2 casting news once they sign up Zac Efron.
