John Singleton Directing N.W.A. Biopic

Is this the project Tyrese Gibson couldn't tell us about?

It took him six years, but John Singleton is finally back behind the camera for Abduction, a man on the run movie (well, "young adult" on the run, at any rate) starring Taylor Lautner. But he seems to be picking up momentum again with Straight Outta Compton, a biographical film about the influential and controversial rap group N.W.A., which gave the world just classic songs as F**k tha Police, which was allegedly condemned by both the F.B.I. and the Secret Service.

The Playlist reports that John Singleton is in talks with former N.W.A. member (turned family film actor) Ice Cube regarding the film, which is still in development. But according to Singleton, "The script is really, really good, and so we’re just figuring it out. New Line really wants to make it."

The news also comes the same day as our interview with Tyrese Gibson, who starred in Singleton's last three movies before Abduction, and who revealed to us that he's in talks with Singleton for a project with Taraji P. Henson. He couldn't reveal any more, but given Gibson's pedigree as a musician and history with the director, Straight Outta Compton (working title) might just be the project he was talking about. Then again, it could be any damned movie whatsoever, since Singleton – like most directors – usually has several pans on the fire at once.

CraveOnline will be back with more Straight Outta Compton news whenever we feel like expressing ourselves.
