Max Payne 3 is officially planned to release in March of 2012. Rockstar's been incredibly quiet about this endeavor so far, and now they've decided to announce its right-around-the-corner launch nonchalantly.
The release came with two screenshots, both below, and some details concerning the game itself. First, it's set for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC next March in both North America and Europe. That's right, a simultaneous console PC launch this time around.
The game was originally planned for 2009, but Take-Two and Rockstar thought it needed more time to cook. It's being developed by Rockstar Vancouver as the lead studio, but New England, London and Toronto are all collaborating.
Rockstar was kind enough to briefly detail the story and setting, too…
Still haunted by the memories of his traumatic past, Max begins a new life working private security protecting a wealthy industrialist and his family in Sao Paulo, Brazil. When gangs target the family under his protection, Max is forced to fight to save his clients and clear his name, in a bid to, once and for all, rid himself of the demons that have tortured him for far too long.
This will be the first Max Payne to feature multiplayer. According to the release, it "delivers a compelling experience that dynamically alters maps and mode progression for all players in a match." There will be both leveling and persistent clans. Hopefully we'll get to embark upon Payne's insanity in groups.
Let's hope Rockstar's even more brilliant than Remedy was with this property. If that's the case, Max Payne 3 could be huge.
