When last we talked to Captain America: The First Avenger writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely they had narrowed the storyline possibilities for Captain America 2 down to five. (Until I suggested Capwolf… then they said six.) As always with superhero sequels, the big question looming over fanboys' heads is who the villain will be. While Joe Johnston suggested The Winter Soldier (which we're completely fine with), Christopher Markus has bigger ideas on his mind. M.O.D.O.K. anyone?
Hero Complex reports that Christopher Markus is pushing for M.O.D.O.K. – Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing – to be the big bad in Captain America 2. Marvel Studios is, understandably, pushing back. "I love MODOK and I think you could make a terrifying movie with MODOK but nobody seems to be on my side at the momentum [sic]."
Gee, maybe that's because he's a scary-ass giant head in a floating chair. George Tarleton was a technician at Advanced Idea Mechanics (AIM for short) who was genetically altered by the Cosmic Cube to increase his brain power. And his size. M.O.D.O.K. predictably turned on AIM, killed his creators and took control of the clandestine organization and proceeded to terrorize Captain America, the Avengers and the rest of the Marvel Universe on repeated occasions. Recent highlights on M.O.D.O.K.'s resume include the excellent storyline M.O.D.O.K.'s Eleven, in which he assembled a team of disparate super-villains to pull off a heist of epic proportions, and a hilarious storyline in Marvel Adventures: Avengers in which he turned Earth's Mightiest Heroes into a giant floating heads in chairs just like himself.
Somehow we doubt Marvel's going to go for it, but Markus is trying anyway, and he thinks he has the perfect casting: "I will win you over to Peter Dinklage as MODOK. If he came around the corner and you saw him floating there you would be terrified. It would be amazing." Peter Dinklage is an exceptional actor famous for his lead role in Thomas McCarthy's acclaimed drama The Station Agent, and yes, he'd be great casting, but seriously… it's still M.O.D.O.K. We're not holding our breath on this one.
CraveOnline will return with more M.O.D.O.K. news when… Actually no, we probably won't.
