At the end of the third season of "Fringe," Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson) experienced a devastating vision of the future that led to the destruction of both parallel Earths and the death of his lover (and future wife), Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv).
Unwilling to let this future come to pass, Peter used the doomsday device to bring the the warring Fringe divisions from two universes together in a single room in an effort to get them to join forces and save both of their universes. But Peter's actions seemingly wiped him from existence, leaving him lost and forgotten by those that loved him.
However, a new teaser from the upcoming fourth season of "Fringe" suggests that Olivia may still have a phantom memory of Peter, even if she can't quite articulate it beyond a strange feeling that she's experiencing.
During a recent interview with TVLine, John Noble gave a few hints about the interaction of his two characters: the Dr. Walter Bishop of our universe and the Walternate from the other universe.
“Oh, they’re always cross with each other,” said Noble. “And the thing about having an argument with yourself is you can take the gloves off, and that’s what they’ll be doing — abusing each other. But ultimately they’ll have to resolve their issues.”
Noble also suggested that his addled Walter may actually be smarter than Walternate.
“Walternate’s a pretty sharp dude,” noted Noble, “but maybe he’s not on top of the science like Walter.”
"Fringe" returns to Fox on Friday, September 23.
