‘Rambo 5’ Has A New Screenplay

But will Sylvester Stallone even return for Rambo: Last Stand?

Some unexpected Rambo 5 news came today from writer Sean Hood, who's been doing the interview rounds for his involvement in Conan the Barbarian. Mr. Hood (who's also contributed screenplays for Halloween: Resurrection, Cube 2: Hypercube, The Crow: Wicked Prayer and the underrated Masters of Horror episode Sick Girl), told FearNet that he's "recently finished a first draft of Rambo: Last Stand."

Empire Online followed up on the news with Mr. Hood, who "met with Mr. Stallone twice last year. […] He gave me a book, an older screenplay, and about twenty pages he'd written himself to use as an inspiration for the last chapter of the Rambo saga." This comes after Stallone himself had expressed doubts about returning to the Rambo series at all, so maybe he's changed his mind. The script apparently won't be any of the rumored takes on a fifth Rambo movie, which include a prequel, a Mexican drug cartel kidnapping movie, or a science-fiction story that would feature John Rambo fighting off a genetically-enhanced super soldier (and yes, that last one was real). Hood wouldn't elaborate on his storyline, but did say that "my hope is that [Stallone will] eventually be inspired to do one more Rambo film, with the tone of Clint Eastwood's 'Unforgiven.'"

Let's just hope that the Rambo franchise doesn't go out with a whimper, as that would be "unforgivenable."

CraveOnline will return with more Rambo news after we sharpen our machetes.
