For the past few weeks, FX has been unleashing enigmatic short clips from "American Horror Story," which were high on style and short on substance. This had the possibly unintended effect of leaving viewers without any idea of what they can expect to see when the series premieres in the fall.

In "American Horror Story," Dylan McDermott ("The Practice") and Connie Britton ("Friday Night Lights") star as Ben and Vivien Harmon, a married couple who attempt to deal with the aftermath of Ben's adulterous affair while moving into a new house that seems to have a supernatural ability to play upon their darkest fears. Jessica Lange ("Grey Gardens") costars as Constance, the Harmons' nosy neighbor; with Denis O'Hare, Frances Conroy, Taissa Farmiga and Evan Peters also slated to star in the series.

In a newly released teaser, FX shows off most of its main cast and some of the strange phenomena that is occurring around them.

"American Horror Story" marks the return of co-creator Ryan Murphy ("Glee") to FX after the end of "NIp/Tux." And while the premise for the series is draped in mystery, Murphy promised that "American Horror Story" will offer audiences fast answers during the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour (via Deadline).

“(We have) a pilot that I believe has like eight cliffhangers,” noted Murphy. “We had an obligation to the audience in the next two scripts to explain a lot of those things that are set up."

"American Horror Story" will debut on Wednesday October 5, only on FX.
