It's been a few days since the first official pics of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises hit the internet, and the reaction has been… "mixed." Yeah, that's a nice way of putting it. It's certainly sleek and black and cat burglar-y, but it lacks a certain cat woman-ness that many fans of Catwoman think is kind of important to the character. Well, Anne Hathaway has heard your complaints and somehow managed not to break down in tears over your disapproval.
Quoth Anne Hathaway at ETOnline:
"I asked someone to send me a few reactions [to the photo], and I happen to know that MTV's reaction was 'meh.'" She went on to add that the picture shows only "a tenth of what the suit can do" and that anybody who actually liked the image has "excellent taste."
Well, what were you expecting? An apology? She's responsible for promoting the film, after all.
But more importantly she's got a point. While the costume in question isn't exactly what we had in mind for the character either (especially the "I Got It At Brookstone" VR Goggles), it's just a still image and we should all have learned by now not to trust them. Many geeks remember the outcry after the first pictures of Bryan Singer's X-Men costumes hit the internet… cries which were suddenly silenced once they saw them in action, and within the context of the film. Even if you do genuinely disapprove of the new Catwoman costume, you have to admit it's better than the Halle Berry version.
Funny how certain things can always unite us in hatred, like the Star Wars Prequels, Batman and Robin and that stupid Catwoman costume, huh?
CRAVE Online will be back with more common sense as soon as we finish this Thomas Paine book.
