Epic Games is responsible for blockbuster franchises such as Unreal Tournament and, of course, Gears of War. But it seems as though the company is gearing up for something completely new, if a job posting picked up by French website Xboxygen is to be believed.
The site has caught wind of an Epic job ad looking for a gameplay programmer to join the team to work on Gears of War 3, as well as a new unannounced IP.
Let the speculation begin!
While it's not technically a new IP, there are whispers echoing around the internet that Epic will once again cast their gaze on the limping Unreal Tournament franchise once Gears of War 3 ships. For reference, we haven’t seen a new Unreal game since 2007 (2009 if you count the game’s “Titan Pack” add-on). Some of Epic’s bosses have even gone on record saying the Unreal franchise has not received the love it deserves in recent years…
But as of right now, this is all scuttlebutt. Epic is laser focused on shipping Gears of War 3. After that, it’s anyone’s guess as to what they’ll be cooking up. But with their track record, odds are the next universe they create (or expand) will be gorgeous.
