I wonder if Clark Gregg knew he was getting such an awesome role when he accepted the part of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson in Iron Man. His seemingly minor character became a Marvel Studios mainstay ever since, getting increasingly larger roles in films like Iron Man 2 and Thor, and now – good for him! – he's starring in those short films Marvel Studios said they were making back in June. We've got a clip for you below, straight from Marvel.com, which also had his thoughts on the projects.
The short films, entitled Marvel One-Shot: The Consultant (clip above) and Marvel One-Shot: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer…, give a glimpse at the life of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s top agent when he's not on-screen in the summer blockbusters, including some back story on certain story elements we haven't seen before, like how Tony Stark came to cameo in The Incredible Hulk. The short The Consultant will appear on the upcoming Thor DVD/Blu-Ray set on September 13th, while (ironically) A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer… will appear at a later date, presumably on the Captain America: The First Avenger release.
Teasing what could be seen in the full short films, Gregg had this to say:
“I was in the process of getting myself in fighting shape for the Avengers, so to find Agent Coulson in a situation where he might be involved in close quarters combat was exciting to me…
“[Coulson finds himself in a situation] where there is an imminent threat and no super heroes around. I was chomping at the bit for that, so I was definitely pumped for that moment to happen.
“In one of them there’s a daily crisis [in which] a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent deals with the World Security Council and one of our super heroes. To explore some of that stuff that connects the various movies I found very exciting as a fanboy at heart.”
Sounds like we haven't yet had our "fill" of Agent Coulson, and judging from the admittedly teasery teaser clip above we might be in for a treat.
CRAVE Online will be back with more Marvel Studios news in a "timely" fashion.
