Criterion Games may have blown us away with Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, but there isn’t a day that goes by where we don’t long for a new Burnout title. Well, that day has come… although it’s not entirely what we were expecting. Today, EA and Criterion Games announced Burnout Crash! at the EA Games Summer Showcase presentation. Burnout Crash! is a downloadable game that will bring the franchise’s popular Crash Mode to Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network in fall 2011.
The fan-favorite Crash mode has become a staple of the Burnout package ever since it debuted in Burnout 2. In Crash Mode, players are tasked with causing the largest accident pile-up possible. Burnout Crash! will offer those same thrills, only in a new top-down perspective with a cartoon-esque visual aesthetic. Burnout Crash! will also make use of the now-standard Autolog friend tracking system to keep competition at the forefront of the experience.
“Burnout Crash! is a crazy mix of pinball and game shows,” said Richard Franke, Creative Director. “We’ve evolved the core gameplay which everyone loved about Crash Mode, and expanded the whole experience using music, style and Autolog to create what we feel is the most mindless fun you can have on any gaming platform.”
The game will come with three games modes and 18 crash junctions. Finally, for the Microsoft Kinect fans out there, Crash! represents EA’s first foray into the Xbox Live Arcade marketplace with a Kinect-specific game mode, which lets two teams use gestures in a party battle. Sounds… good?
Here is one of the first screenshots for Burnout Crash!, which should give you an idea of what the game will look like.
