We never stop playing video games. That’s a fact. Even after we call it quits for the week we still look forward to getting home and continuing our digital conquests. It’s our life blood. So we thought it would be fun to share with everyone what our gaming intentions are for the weekend so you guys can get a sense of what we're playing and enjoying on a weekly, non-formal basis. Yes, this concept isn't new to the internet. But hey, we kind of want to join in on the fun. Can you blame us for that? So without further ado, here’s what we’re playing this weekend that will forfeit any semblance of rest…
Please feel free to sound off below to let us know what your gaming plans are this weekend.
Erik Norris: Unless you’ve been living under a rock for some time now, you’re probably aware that Naughty Dog unleashed the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta on the world. After a rocky start full of lag, connection problems and system freezes, Naughty Dog has ironed out the kinks and the beta is now running silky smooth. That’s my cue to jump aboard and give this thing a good workout over the long holiday weekend. It’s time I celebrate America the best way I know how: fireworks, beer, burgers and one of the best gaming franchises ever made. Delicious.
I also have a date with Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. Yes, I’ve been putting this classic off for some time now. But I’m correcting that folly as we speak. Firstly, the game is absolutely beautiful. I could stare at it all day, in all honesty. It pains me to admit this, but I’ve never been a big fan of the Ratchet & Clank series. It’s just never clicked with me quite like the Jak & Daxter series has. But A Crack in Time is changing my world view here. I pretty much love everything about this game — the weapons, humor, worlds and characters are all top notch. I plan to see this one through to completion and look forward to the next game in the series (if there will be a next one).
Alex Keen: Like Erik, I plan on playing some Uncharted 3 this weekend. Because I am a late bloomer to the PS3, I really haven’t spent much time playing the other two Uncharted games to bias me during this experience. I’ve heard good things; but, must retain the air of skepticism as I do with everything else in my life.
I plan on playing more of F.E.A.R. 3 this weekend. I’ve had a blast so far, but life has kept me from playing as much of it as I’d like. I really want to delve a bit deeper in the co-op gameplay and Erik assured me that we’d get to play some this weekend. Of course, if he’s not around I’ll gladly pair up with one of our readers… just leave us a comment below.
Finally, I’ll be playing some more PopCap games like Heavy Weapon and Feeding Frenzy 2. They were on super sale last week and I haven’t had a chance to play much of either yet. Heavy Weapon is a fun experience that just gets crazier the deeper you get into it. I haven’t been as impressed with Feeding Frenzy 2, but what else should I expect from a game about fish eating one another?
Mike White: Hooray for the 4th of July weekend working in a resort town! I’ll be at the restaurant every waking hour for most of this weekend, but I’ve got something nice planned for myself when I have a free moment. I’m talking about Starcraft 2 and good booze. I know it’s still a Blizzard game, but at least it’s not Warcraft (more on that later).
The last time I played through Starcraft I had an underpowered computer and an unholy desire to finish the game quickly. This time around it’s all about full throttle graphics and a harder difficulty. I want to experience the game for all it’s worth. I know the next expansion won’t be coming out until next year, but I plan on being occupied with other games in the coming months. You know who you are.
I’d like to leave with a quick note to World of Warcraft. You hurt my feelings. I’ll still sleep over but on opposite sides of the bed. There will be no cuddles until I forgive you. Expect the passive-aggressive silent treatment for at least a week or two.
Joey Davidson: My weekend will likely be split several ways. It’s 4th of July on Monday, so that means I’ll spend some time Sunday night in the car. Traveling makes me yearn for my 3DS nowadays, so I’ll definitely be playing Ocarina of Time 3D.
On the homefront, I’ll be split between Trenched and Minecraft. Minecraft is always an (unhealthy) obsession for me these days. Seeing it in my weekend plans is a no-brainer. The pistons came out with 1.7, so there goes my free time as I switch between setting traps and secret doors.
But Trenched has managed to capture and hold my attention. I love this game. And I’ve been playing the multiplayer components for the last several nights, which has managed to breathe a whole bunch of life into the experience. Fighting in mechs and planting turrets is addicting as hell, co-op gameplay only makes that worse.
