Well, this was surely unexpected. Warner Bros. announced today a new multiplayer-focused downloadable first-person shooter set in the Batman universe called Gotham City Impostors. The game is being developed by Monolith studios, the same team that created F.E.A.R., and pits two teams of four against one another on both sides of the Batman vs. Joker war.
Players won’t be playing as Batman or the Joker, however, but will instead be “impostors” fighting on behalf of their respective vigilante’s belief structure. Although, doesn’t Batman have a strict “no gun” policy? It seems Team Bats has overlooked that fine print detail. Oh well.
In the game’s official announcement press release, Warner Bros. mentions that Gotham City Impostors will feature a deep level of customization, allowing you to tweak your character’s costume, gadgets and weaponry.
Gotham City Impostors is set to release on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC. The game’s exact launch date is still a mystery. Expect more as it becomes available. Since we don't have any screens or video to go off of, we expect the game to look something like this:
