IS Bradley Cooper the Devil Himself?

The Limitless star in talks to play Lucifer in Alex Proyas' Paradise Lost.

Say what you will about Bradley Cooper (go ahead, we'll wait…) but he's one damned charming performer. That dashing quality appears to have made him the perfect candidate to play Lucifer in Alex Proyas' upcoming adaptation of John Milton's 17th century poem Paradise Lost. If that sounds a little too 'literary' for you, don't worry… Alex Proyas is turning the classic tale of Lucifer's fall from Heaven and ongoing battle with God and the angel Michael into an action epic a la Clash of the Titans.

Actually, maybe you should be a little worried.

Variety reports that Cooper hasn't officially signed yet, but is eager for the role. Negotiations are to begin shortly. Proyas, who previously helmed such films as The Crow, Knowing and I, Robot, will direct the film for Legendary Pictures, the production company that brought you Christopher Nolan's Batman movies and Guillermo Del Toro's upcoming giant monster/giant robot flick Pacific Rim.

Is this just another shameless Hollywood attempt to mine popcorn money from familiar public domain storylines or actually an interesting vision from the mind of an admittedly interesting director? And what would this mean for the upcoming remake of The Crow, which also wants Cooper for the lead role? We'll keep covering the story as it develops.

Crave Online will be back with more Paradise Lost news as soon as we find it.
