So it's come to this. Kanye West has a sex tape. The music world's biggest narcissist isn't happy about the news, however, and the rapper’s legal team has issued a scorched-earth decree amidst a flurry of takedown notices and cease-and-desist warnings, in an attempt to locate the would-be leaker of the video.
Kanye's people had even given a deadline for all involved parties to release the name of the person who leaked the tape: end of day Monday. But that time has come and gone – and in the meantime, a second tape has reportedly surfaced, this one twice as long.
“Be advised that the Screen Shot, as well as the Tape from which the Screen Shot was taken, were illegally obtained and believed to have been stolen from Mr. West’s computer,” wrote Pryor Cashman associate Lisa M. Buckley in a statement. “We hereby demand that you…disclose in writing by the end of the business day, Monday, September 24, 2012 the identity of the person or persons who have approached you to sell, post, advertise, market publicize, display or otherwise disseminate the Screen Shot or other materials from the Tape which were illegally obtained.”
The sex tape news first hit on Friday (Sept. 21), when RadarOnline broke the news that they'd seen a 20-minute tape of Kanye West getting it on with a girl who looks quite a bit like current girlfriend (and sex tape celebrity) Kim Kardashian. The screenshots posted for "pics or it didn't happen" evidence have since been removed.
Speculation of the money-grab in marketing a Kanye sex tape has run rampant, with CEO of Vivid Entertainment predicting numbers in the millions:
“It depends on the quality of the tape, the length, the lighting, the sex,” Hirsch told CBS Local. ”But something like this could go for a couple of million dollars. I don’t think there has ever been a sex tape with a star of this magnitude. Tommy Lee's was big, but this is a different world and Kanye is a special guy. He’s everywhere.”
