Note to musicians, artists, drug users and anyone who believes in personal freedoms: stay the hell out of Sierra Blanca, Texas.

Fiona Apple learned this the hard way on Wednesday, when she was arrested for possession of hash after authorities searched Apple’s tour bus at a border stop.

If you recognize the name Sierra Blanca, it's not for the town's contributions to the benefit of humanity. The name may be familiar because it happens to be the same town where Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg have been busted for weed.

The 35-year-old singer was arrested for possession of hashish, a felony charge, and is currently being held at Hudspeth County Jail. It's not very likely that she'll face jail time, despite the hardcore conservative lean a vast majority of Texas courts possess. With any luck, Apple's experience will soon be just another footnote in the nation's corrosively failed War on Drugs – wherein more drugs are available than ever before, at a far higher quality level than ever before, despite staggering amounts of money being spent to combat drug use and a prison system that incarcerates more citizens than any country in the world, a massive number of them convicted of non-violent drug offenses.

Apple is scheduled to perform at WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma at 8 p.m. on Saturday. This is Texas we're talking about, however, and they apparently don't like being messed with. Especially if your particular brand of "messing" includes a personal stash to take the edge off a very long bus drive.

Here's irony in your eye:
