Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell is looking to launch a primetime music performance TV series. But don't go chalking this up to another "American Idol" or cheesy-slick contestant show – what Farrell has in mind is more in the vein of established names making the best use of TV imaginable.
With the overload of talent-contest shows that seem contrived and focus more on prima donna celebrity judges than promoting genuine talent, Farrell's idea seems like a fresh one – but it's far from new. Going all the way back to the days of Ed Sullivan and up through the late-night dose that Saturday Night Live provides, there are nuggets of greatness to be found still to this day – but they have to be sought out, and as seen with SNL, sound problems can sometimes mar the entire experience.
If there's one thing Farrell knows how to curate properly, it's a damn fine collection of musical performances. The man responsible for Lollapalooza is also back on the road with Jane's Addiction, for the band's "Theatre Of The Escapists" tour. Catch them near you by keeping up with Jane's Addiction's official site.
