Maximo Park have been absent from the music scene since their 2009 LP 'Quicken The Heart', but today frontman Paul Simon has revealed that they will be releasing a new album entitled 'The National Health' on July 11.

The National Health will be the band's fourth studio effort and, according to Simon, will counteract the contradictory "happy" music that is currently on the airwaves despite the tough economic climate.

"We're in a global recession and everyone is being bombarded with bouncy, happy music", he said. "The nation is out of control and the record is about taking back control, and being a force for change in your own life. It can't speak for everybody but it has its eyes and ears all around us – that's always been a Maximo Park thing: look at yourself.

"See how you relate to yourself and hopefully someone else will have something in common with it", he added. "Our songs are built on empathy. I would hope it's as vital a music as people would want to hear."

Maximo Park went on hiatus following the poor reception of Quicken The Heart, released after the commericial and critical success of second album Our Earthly Pleasures, which saw the band reach number two in the UK charts and become widely popular thanks to single 'Our Velocity'. They said that the break was to ensure that the band would not grow "boring and repetitive" both for themselves and for their fans.

The tracklisting for The National Health is as follows:

'When I Was Wild'
'The National Health'
'Hips And Lips'
'The Undercurrents'
'Write This Down'
'Reluctant Love'
'Until The Earth Would Open'
'This Is What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted'
'Wolf Among Men'
'Take Me Home'
'Unfamiliar Places'
'Waves of Fear'

It is available for preorder on their official site,, with several options for preorder ranging from a signed deluxe CD to a signed deluxe CD, vinyl, t-shirt and signed screen print.

The band will be previewing their new songs during two gigs, the first at Stoke Sugarmill on May 8 and the second at York's The Duchess on May 9. They will be performing at The Great Escape festival in Brighton on May 10 with further UK dates yet to be announced.
