Damon Albarn has unveiled the first official single from his upcoming studio LP Dr Dee online. The Marvelous Dream shares noteable similarites with tracks from Blur's latter, more experimental works such as their self-titled LP and 13. The video is a single shot of John Dee house, a block of council flats that share their name with the mathematician whom the album was based upon.

Dr Dee is a concept album based upon the life of mathematician and philosopher John Dee, advisor to Elizabeth I. It was recorded late last year in Albarn's West London studio and Salford, with Albarn accompanied on many of the tracks by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. It is to be released by Parlaphone Records on May 7 with the track list available right here at Crave Online

Albarn is also set to perform the album in the form of an opera live at the London Coliseum on June 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th and July 4th, 6th and 7th. He is also set to play the One Fest this year on April 14th.

Albarn recently came under fire from former frontman of The Streets Mike Skinner, who stated that he was of the opinion that Albarn "needs to stop" as he looked "a bit mad", suggesting that Albarn was getting too old to perform the music that he does. After watching Blur's contrived performance at the Brit awards many may be inclined to agree with him, but it's high-concept material like Dr Dee that proves that while Albarn may wish to spend his weekends bopping around the stage like a twenty-something-year-old with Alex James, he still takes his work very seriously.
