It's always a strange day when I find myself sharing giddy excitement with Perez Hilton. After a nearly seven year wait, it seems as if we'll finally be hearing some new music from beloved singer-songwriter Fiona Apple in the very near future.
Epic Records CEO L.A. Reid posted to Twitter on Sunday (Jan. 22), informing fans that her return was indeed coming soon:
"Lot's of good music coming from @Epic_Records in the next few weeks. Stay tuned music fans. Welcome back Fiona! #BeEpic," he wrote, later tweeting "YES Fiona Apple!" to clarify.
Apple's follow-up to 2005's Extraordinary Machine has been reportedly finished for more than a year, with release originally expected for spring 2011. At a November concert at Largo in Los Angeles, Apple reportedly told the crowd that she couldn't remember how to play any of her new songs because "they've been done for a fucking year." A member of her band then chimed in, "Not her fault!" – indicating, perhaps, that external forces have kept the music from seeing the light of release.
Epic Records finally appears to be getting their act together, however, and the gears are evidently turning. We will definitely keep you posted on updates. In the meantime, check out a few of Apple's more popular jams below:
