The recently announced line-up for the 17th annual Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest includes a varied number of musical acts, from The Roots and The Flaming Lips to Soundgarden and Steve Miller Band. Almost 200 acts in total are scheduled to perform, bringing an eclectic mix of indie rock, alternative, jazz, and blues tunes to the nation's capital.
The fest, which runs from July 5-17 and is the biggest music event of its kind in Ottawa, will feature eight different stages and venues. Other performances include The Tragically Hip (who are also playing at Montreal's Osheaga event this summer), the Dropkick Murphys, Three Days Grace, Billy Talent, Theory of a Deadman, Death Cab For Cutie (another Osheaga band), Erykah Badu, Jennifer Hudson, The Black Keys, Girl Talk, and Blue Rodeo, amongst others.
According to CBC News, Billboard Magazine ranked the Ottawa Bluesfest as one of the top 10 music festivals to check out in North America. Part of the draw is the selection of both Canadian home-grown talent along with the wide range of international acts that come to perform during the near two-week event… and this year's festival is no exception.
“People keep mentioning all the speculation on the line-up,” Bluesfest director Mark Monahan said to Metro Ottawa before announcing this year’s acts. “It’s kind of flattering, in a way, although most of it is wrong.”
Tickets for the event go on sale to the general public on Saturday at 10am. Check out the festival's official site www.ottawabluesfest.ca for more info and schedule details.
