Soundgarden Announces Tour, Taps The Mars Volta To Open

The most badass tour of the Summer (so far) has been announced...

With last week's Coachella festival upping the ante on the Summer music schedule this year by a factor of ten, music acts are going to have to level up on their game across the board to keep from underwhelming the masses of increasingly attention-fragmented digital kids no longer happy with "cool". These kids need something big, bright and beautiful to grab them through the tide of smartphones held high at shows this Summer, something completely ridiculously awesome that not even the endlessly cynical message board mercenaries can tarnish.

Thankfully, revived grunge deities Soundgarden have heard the call, and answered with promise: The band has announced plans for their first North American tour in 14 years. Following last Summer’s hugely adored headlining performance at Lollapalooza, Chris Cornell and the boys have a new head of steam, with plans for a new album in the works. Time will tell if they'll have any new material to debut when they launch the trek in Toronto on July 2nd, but either way, they've got another amazing ace in the hole: The Mars Volta will be opening on select dates.

Only four dates have been announced, but an issued press release notes that more will be added in the coming weeks. After Toronto, Soundgarden will hit Philadelphia, PA on July 13th, Morrison, CO on July 18th, and Los Angeles, CA on July 22nd.

Ahead of the trek, frontman Chris Cornell will wrap up his ongoing acoustic tour. Confirmed dates for both Soundgarden and Cornell are posted below. Stick to Soundgarden's official site for more updates as they come.
