Top 10 Canadian Musicians Right Now

The Canadian music scene is heating up!

Canadian artists and bands are incredibly present on the international music scene right now, raking in not only awards at home but at American and UK events as well. All nominated for coveted home-grown Junos (and many of them winning), these are the top 10 Canadian musicians right now.

Broken Social Scene
With seven studio albums under their belts, this indie rock band was nominated for Junos in the categories of Video of the Year, Group of the Year and Alternative Album of the Year.

Johnny Reid
Country singer Johnny Reid was born in Scotland but moved to Canada when he was 13 and attended Bishop's University in Sherbrooke, Quebec. He received Juno nods for Fan Choice as well as Album and Artist of the Year, not to mention won the award for Country Album of the Year.

kd lang
A vet to the music biz, kd lang hit radars again recently when she was nominated for Single of the Year for her rendition of "Hallelujah" (which she sang at the Vancouver Winter Games). She also just released her 13th studio album Sing It Loud on April 12th.

Sarah McLachlan
Kicking off a tour in a few weeks, Halifax native Sarah McLachlan has won two Grammy and four Junos, and was nominated for the Juno Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Pop Album of the Year in 2010.

Michael Buble
This crooner just keeps going – with a couple of Grammys and Junos to brag about he also married Argentine model and actress Luisana Lopilato last month. He was in the running for this year's Juno Fan Choice Award.

A BC rock band lead by the eccentric Jacob Hoggard, a former "Canadian Idol" contestant, he is probably the most successful singer to come out of the reality show. They've released four albums and were nominated for Junos this year for Video of the Year, Fan Choice, Single of the Year, and Album of the Year.

Justin Beiber
OK we hate to include the Bieb, but in all fairness it just wouldn't be a Top 10 Canadian musician list without the teen hair-tosser – his album My World Part 1 made him one of the only artists in Billboard history to have four singles from a debut album chart in the top 40 of Billboard's Hot 100 before the album's release. He's also won slews of awards including this year's Fan Choice Juno.

Arcade Fire
Making major waves by winning Group of the Year, Alternative Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year, Montreal-raised Arcade Fire also took home the 2011 Grammy for Album of the Year for their third album The Suburbs.

His humble beginnings on "Degrassi: The Next Generation" have led Drake to becoming one of the biggest up-and-coming hip-hop artists today. He performed at the 2010 Grammys, hosted this year's Junos, and has collaborated with biggies like Kanye West, Eminem, Jay-Z, and Rihanna.

Neil Young
No one deserves a number-one spot on this list of Top 10 Canadian musicians right now (and, for that matter, of all time) like Neil Young – his stats are beyond impressive: seven Junos, a number of Grammys (solo and as part of Crosby, Stills, & Nash who later became Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young), 30 studio albums, six live albums, and contributed to four movie soundtracks. He won this year's Juno for Artist of the Year.
