“Dad, you’re embarrassing me!”
Now that we know that the Georgia woman who slept with her teen daughter’s boyfriend is getting 15 years behind bars, it’s time to talk about another parent that will probably not be getting any “Parent of the Year” awards anytime soon. And for this we have to go all the way to Michigan.
Geoffrey Boylan, a 39-year-old man from Williamsburg, Michigan, his 37-year-old wife, Duanne and their daughter, 18-year-old Hannah have all been arrested for throwing a booze-fueled party for a bunch of high school students. Oh, but there’s more. Geoffrey also went ahead and decided to have sex with one of Hannah’s 16-year-old classmates. Not cool, dad. But Geoffrey will not be charged with criminal sexual misconduct because the girl was of age, at least according to the Grand Traverse County Attorney’s Office.
“There’s a difference between something that’s morally or ethically wrong and something that violates the criminal law,” Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Bob Cooney told the Record-Eagle. “Given the age difference between the two and the circumstances of this case, I certainly can’t condone what happened but at the same time, it did not violate criminal law.”
According to the Record-Eagle, Hannah collected money from her pals to pay for the beer that was supplied by Hannah’s own parents. Investigators also discovered that pot was smoked at the Boylan home.
“I did not (have a party),” Geoffrey told the Record-Eagle. “There was a party at my house that my child had.”
Oh, so Geoffrey just hooked up with a teenaged girl? Ah, we get it now. Geoffrey did admit to getting oral sex from the 16-year-old girl, but stopped during it because “it wasn’t right.” Sure, buddy. The teen girl told investigators that the sex act was consensual, but wouldn’t have likely happened if she hadn’t been drunk.
Oh, and Geoffrey, who is an assistant football coach at Elk Rapids Schools has been fired. Makes sense.
Geoffrey, Duanne and Hannah all face charges of furnishing alcohol to minors and allowing minors to consume alcohol.
