The director of The Pink Panther remake has made a film based on a story by Richard Matheson, the original writer of I Am Legend. You may have heard of it: it's called Real Steel. Or possibly Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots: The Movie. Hugh Jackman stars as an out-of-work prizefighter whose job has been usurped by big honking robots. He finds one, patches it up, and overcomes all odds to win the love of the son he never knew he had. Real Steel doesn't come out for more than six months, it sounds silly (although the trailer does look kind of nifty in a 'Pint-Sized Robot Jox' kind of way) and yet Dreamworks has already greenlit a sequel.
It sounds like madness on the surface, but Deadline is reporting that the decision has been made based on 'strong response to internal screenings of the film' and an impressive preview at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. For all we know we'll be thanking Kwanzaa-Bot that this sequel is already in the works after seeing the finished film, but if Real Steel doesn't knock our collective blocks off when it comes out October 7th, the guys who greenlit Real Steel 2 are going to look like real schmoes.
Crave Online will return with more Real Steel news. Steel yourself, because this gearshift just got real.
